Dear Friends,
You amaze me with your generosity! In August we held our inaugural DESIGNER CLOTHING DRIVE in support of BOTTOMLESS CLOSET. With your help, we collected $186,503 worth of designer clothes, shoes and accessories. These 1028 items will be among those sold at the Couture Resale event this week (September 14, 15, 16) at Bottomless Closet, allowing them to provide professional business apparel and coaching to help economically challenged women in gaining and sustaining employment. You really do amaze me!

New fall items are coming in every day and flying out just as fast. Please stop in and take a look at the new, new looks. And so many more furs, shoes, bags, scarves and belts than ever...

Please visit our website at www.francesheffernan.com and be sure you and your friends are signed up for our e-mail news announcements. You'll receive early word of events and sales going on in the store.

We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you soon.

All my best,

Frances Heffernan in the Press
This great photo of our own Maggie Barrett and her muse, Frog, appeared in Pioneer Press in June to announce the opening of Frannie. Does Frog look like she's smiling? We're not surprised...Frannie is off to a great start, which makes us very proud.

Must Haves
This is a season that will just make your mouth water!

It's all about the beauty and allure of DELUXE in every way...rich luxe fabrics, exquisite embellishment, charming, unexpected and unique detail, and quality craftsmanship in every garment. High romance continues with new interpretations for the season. The trend moves from exotic and bohemian to a more refined and feminine historical influence. Think Victorian, Edwardian, Renaissance with lots of lace, ruffles, pleating, velvet, satin, and roses everywhere. There are many choices and ways to mix the trends to come up with your personal expression of style and trend.

Velvet - the richest fabric of them all becomes a main ingredient for fall. Iridescent and cut velvet are base fabrics for new suits, dresses, skirts, and coats. We love velvet mixed with other fabrics while velvet trimmings and ribbons are everywhere - in clothes, accessories, and even shoes! Wear lots of velvet this fall; don't wait 'til the Holidays!

Brocade - another deluxe fabric making a hit for fall. The texture and patterning that brocade creates gives jackets, skirts, and coats great appeal. Try on our richly patterned brocade jackets-they're simple in style but very intriguing in look; a great way to create a new look with your basic black or brown trouser.

Fur - what better way to say "deluxe"! Our love affair with anything fur continues and this trend shows no sign of slowing up this year. A wide variety offers something for everyone's style: from textured Persian lamb and astrakhan to soft chinchilla; from real to fun; from classically brown and black to brightly colored. The items are endless; scarves, bags, shawls, ponchos, jackets, vests are all touched with bits of fur.

Lace - The influence of Victorian makes lace a must-have, as an allover fabric or as trimming and insertions. It is the detail of choice to update a basic T, and we love the look of lots of lace peeking out from under a fall jacket. Some of our newest items are full lace skirts, lace T's to layer over, and black lace-trimmed charmeuse camis.

Ruffles - Do they ever go away? Do we ever get tired of them?! Like lace, the Victorian era used ruffles as a major detail and so should you! We especially love ruffles used to accent, soften, and enhance a plain top, whether it's a charming accent down the front of a sweater, or neatly gathered around the collar of a shirt.

The Rose - Roses are blooming everywhere...so beautiful when printed on lustrous panne, or knitted in a T, but, imagine a coat with crinoline roses as a collar, a soft sweater with a cascade of corsage roses at the neck, or brilliantly embroidered roses on a new soft handbag!

The Crop and Layering Story - New proportions, "split level" dressing, short over long. Pick up a little tie front bolero, a fur crop jacket, a wrap-and-tie kimino shrug, a crop cable turtleneck pullover, a romantic crochet little cardigan. Put it over a new or familiar top and you'll have a new fashion look in an instant.

Vests - another great layering option and way to express your unique style. Vests become an added novel piece under the great jacket, coat or cardigan. Our array of vests, whether knit or woven, are dressed up in velvet and brocade, or more casual in great jacquard fair isles. And, don't miss our great fur vests, which are not only trend right, but will keep you warm!

Skirts - A skirt for every style, every length, every occasion. The mood is soft - look again to the fabrics and detail. Tiered peasant skirts get romantic and historical with lace and lace trim, velvets skirts take on autumnal prints, rich satins, taffetas and damasks get trimmed and embroidered. The more novel the better - even a basic grey flannel isn't so basic anymore.

Novelty Jackets - If you already have your basic blazer, you'll want a special novelty jacket to wear over jeans or trousers this year. It's the fabric story as well as the style that is new - patterned and jacquard tweeds, beautiful velvets, brocade, embroidery, stand collar and kimono wraps, officer club details, metallic trim, and jumbo houndstooths and menswear for a contemporary look. Check out corsage and floral detail for romance!

Coats - continue to be fashion's elegant outfit completer. It's so easy to make your statement with a new coat. Beautiful velvet coats take you from day to evening, and our printed and embroidered coats provide just the right amount of newness to any outfit. On the more traditional side, the menswear country checks, tweeds, and houndstooths speak to elegance and refinement, while fur and fur trimmings are everywhere!

With Flying Fig
These scarves are each a unique work of art. In the finest tradition of couture, all Flying Fig scarves are completely handcrafted - from hand-dyeing the individual pieces to achieve the desired color and shade, to the embroidery and the finish. The design is initially hand-painted to size on canvas/design paper. The fabric is selected and hand-dyed, then the material is stretched on wooden supports. The design is transferred to paper and then hand-transferred, using age-old techniques onto the starched fabric. After hand embroidery by craftsmen, it is removed from the stretchers and the fabric is finished to perfection.

Flying Fig was founded by a mother-daughter team. Quite literally, the dream is that of daughter, Jagriti Chadha (Jag) who dreamt of a house of Beauty, a place where you could find breathtakingly beautiful, exquisite creations of all sorts. She had to wait for several years to make her dreams come true while she worked in marketing at many companies (Unilever, Bayer, and L'Oreal). Finally, in 1999, she teamed with her mother, Jagesh Metge (Tito) to realize their vision of a company that would combine beautiful designs with the magic of traditional artistry.

Tito, a diplomat's wife, has had the opportunity to live around the world and immerse herself in cultures as diverse as Iran, the Philippines, New Zealand and Tonga. Painting has been her passion for as long as she can remember. And her own mother recognized the talent early and had her tutored in her childhood. She studied at the Parsons School of Design and in Budapest. Her paintings are held in private collections around the world and in permanent collections in India and New Zealand. Many discerning shoppers at Frances Heffernan are adding her works to their own collections.
