Spring 2009 Must Haves
It’s a season for wearing NAVY BLUE and what could be better?!! Black is beginning to look a little tired to us, and navy seems much fresher, more feminine, and totally right.
What we love is how versatile our spring navy’s are—from career to casual, from day to night.

Navy and White
Keeping navy fresh by mixing with white, we love the classic look of ticking stripes in this jacket. Note the dimensional basketweave for texture, and simple styling…..great with navy or white pants.
Also fresh for spring are the graphic checks and grids. The broken windowpane printed blouse gets even more dimension by pleating the front….great under a navy or white jacket.

Sheer
What a fabulous fabric story. Interesting woven novelty
fabrics make spring navy anything but traditional and boring. Our open weave jacket has tiny squares woven together in a lace
construction that lets the air and light through….totally cool
yet delicate.
A beautiful burned-out paisley jacquard updates this navy
shirtwaist tunic dress. The effect is a winning combination of sheer and solid throughout. No need for lots of styling detail here—the fabric does the work.

Decoration
Embellishment and fancy trim continues to be a trend and look. You’ve seen lots of it on our holiday black items—now take a look at how fresh it looks on navy! One of our most elegant tops, a simple knit with soft Juliet sleeves has 3 rows of faux opals and sapphires set like a band of jewelry right above the gathers.
The stand-out navy dress of the season has to be our Bogner silky shirtwaist, enhanced with embroidery, stones, baby paillettes, and printed sequins. It’s a sophisticated style with exquisite decoration setting
off the hem and neckline.

The Printed Dress
Dresses continue to be a fashion story and one that keep growing. This season the style is very simple—it’s the print story that is the trend statement. And the print story is all about abstracts. Take a look at an elegant example of this trend in the related story about Valentino. Note the blurring abstract floral design.
More abstract choices, this time more graphic in black and white. We love these giant flat flowers, so large they become almost invisible as flowers. This shirtwaist dress also has the trench storm flap detail on one shoulder—we call this our trench dress! A bit younger in attitude, this silky skimmer features an abstraction of dots and circles, hand-drawn,
hand-shaded, and in the trendy eco green coloring.

Pattern Coats
You all have lots of solid coats, now how about adding a patterned coat to your closet?!
Our favorite trench coat just got updated in a discreet mini district check in discreet brown.
The mix of classic/casual styling and novelty/dressy fabrics is the key combination to
this season’s trend look. Here the simple reefer coat comes in a fancy lustrous brocade. The double needle jeanswear stitching keeps it casual, the fancy fabric gives it a dressy allure.

Knit Jacket
Spring is the time you’re always on the hunt for a new jacket. We have a great selection of sweater knit jackets that combine the comfort of the knit with the classic styling of the traditional woven jacket.
Blazer styling is key this season, and this one features the classic lapels and collar but done in the reverse stitch for contrast texture. It’s handknit in England so you know the quality of yarn and and knitting technique is superb. Another handknit in pretty pink—this time in an allover
textured seed stitch with rounded collar.

Blurred Abstract Printed T’s
Here’s a pair of mesh knit tops that capture the major print direction of the season—engineered and blurred motifs. Can you find the butterfly?

Layered Sheer Knit Tops
We know sheer is the look and layering has become a way of life, so these combinations will be the trend-right tops of the season.
Gorgeous tangerine never looked so delicious as in this short sleeve T that’s a mesh knit deep scoop neck under another even deeper scoop.
For those who like pattern, we start with a rounded-V stripe T, then layer the gossamer sheer knit deep-V solid over it…something very sexy about these layers of sheers.

Changing of the Guard at Valentino
Some of you may remember
reading that, after 45 years as the world’s master couturier, Valentino Garavani, turned over the reins in 2008 to 35-year-old, Alessandra Facchinetti. It seems Alessandra did not quite get it right, and her brief stint was ended last year “following a misaligned vision with the company.” MEOW! What really happened was she couldn’t build a strong, cohesive team. The new design duo comes with over ten years of working directly with the master and we are excited
about what’s to come from this
hallowed design house. Maria and Pier have a background in accessories for Valentino. They are said to have “enormous respect and love for” Valentino’s work. Come take a look at the Valentino Red in store now.
